Hillman Appointed Judge for 55th District Court of Ingham County

Rick HillmanLansing, Mich. – Governor Gretchen Whitmer appointed Foster Swift attorney and shareholder Richard L. Hillman to the bench for 55th District Court of Ingham County.

Hillman is no stranger to the courtroom.  He has spent over 30 years specializing in municipal law, criminal defense, driver’s license appeals, and landlord-tenant law. While at Foster Swift, he served as the city prosecutor for the Cities of Fenton and DeWitt. Prior to joining Foster Swift, he was a shareholder with McGinty, Jakubiak, Frankland & Hitch, P.C.

His many years of practice as a defense lawyer and prosecutor make him exceptionally well-qualified to sit on the bench. He has represented clients in hundreds of hearings and trials in criminal courtrooms throughout the State of Michigan and has won cases for his clients in all levels of Michigan Courts, including appeals to the Michigan Court of Appeals and Michigan Supreme Court.  He is well respected by law enforcement, prosecutors and by judges throughout Michigan.

"Governor Whitmer made an excellent choice selecting Rick for the 55th District Court" said Anne Seurynck, Foster Swift President.  “He knows the courtroom well and is always fair and respectful of others in every situation.  We are excited that he is joining a long list of other  Foster Swift attorneys to be tapped for judicial positions including David McKeague, former Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and Larry  Lindemer, former justice for the Michigan Supreme Court."

Hillman is a member of the East Lansing Knights of Columbus and the St. Thomas Aquinas and St. John’s Catholic Parishes. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Marquette University. Mr. Hillman lives in Meridian Township with his wife, Teresa.
