Currently my client, Melissa Mitin is incarcerated at the Ingham County Jail pending a psychiatric evaluation at the Forensics Center.
She has a pending trial in Ingham County Circuit Court for a charge of Open Murder. That trial will be scheduled after the forensic evaluation is completed and a hearing conducted on the results of that evaluation.
Currently there is an investigation regarding a recent birth and it includes an investigation into a deceased male baby found at a recycling center in Roseville, which DNA testing showed was not Melissa’s.
Melissa Mitin is 25 years old. She is an Okemos High School graduate and has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Michigan State University. She lives with her parents and sister. Melissa has no prior criminal or juvenile record.
The Mitin family is very distressed about this situation. They are extremely concerned about their daughter. They have had many media requests and some media have shown up at their home. At this time they do not wish to do any interviews as they continue to try to understand and cope with this situation.
As of this date and time I have no specific information to provide to the media and have no additional comment beyond the fact that we are currently awaiting the results of the ongoing investigation.
