The law concerning debt collection is complex and constantly in flux. Depending on the situation, a creditor, a recovery service, or even an attorney and law firm may be regulated by debt collection laws. Attorneys and law firms frequently (and unintentionally) violate debt collection laws and incur liability as a result. This session will discuss the major debt collection laws applicable to attorneys and their clients, advise on strategies to minimize the risk of lawsuits against attorneys and law firms, and provide practical insight on defending consumer protection lawsuits against clients.
